Talked about my background, where I was from. “I have spent 20 years in Colorado, but I grew up in Hawaii. My family is kinda spread about…”

I asked him where he was from, where his family was from. “I’m from here. For always. Forever.”

I had never thought about it like that before. My family history in America goes back a few generations. His goes back millennia. Forever. It was a real powerful moment of perspective. It was an ignorant question, but one that brought me some enlightenment…
