On the Web - The Lehmann’s poison frog (Oophaga lehmanni), which is endemic to Colombia, has been subject to illegal trafficking for the wildlife pet trade, causing it to be listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN. A group named Tesoros de Colombia formed and recently obtained the required permits from CITES and the Colombian government to legally export its captive bred Lehmann’s poison frogs for the international hobbyist market in order to deter illegal smuggling and help conservation efforts for the remaining wild population.
