Snakes, Lizards and Geckos Part of Learning at Clinton Street Public School

The Reptile Report - Let’s just say the reptile club has caused some hiss-teria at Clinton Street public school.

From frogs to geckos to bearded dragon lizards, kids are learning all about — and handling — the creatures in a club that is now so popular teacher Jim Karkavitsas runs a session every day.

He’s gone from seeing the reaction students had to just one snake — when this all began five years ago — to how they respond to the more than 40 species he now has in his classroom.

While they’re learning about the animals and their life cycles, “it also teaches them empathy and how to be respectful of another living thing,” he says.
