AB238 is not about animal welfare or public safety. It is about advancing a radical agenda and a “look what we did” so animal rights groups can bring millions of more dollars into their fraudulent organizations for payroll, not to help animals. This bill bans the importation, possession, sale, transfer and breeding of “dangerous wild animals,” or DWAs. The bill allows a person who possesses a DWA before July 1, 2017 to keep that animal only if the person meets certain requirements. As we have witnessed in Ohio, this could lead to dozens of healthy animals being seized. The Ohio ban led to the deaths of beloved animals cared for responsibly for many years. Deaths and extreme stress upon these animals by being ripped away from their homes happened merely so that animal rights groups and pseudo “sanctuaries” could profit from the media coverage and self-promotion.
