The Reptile Report - Personalities- A Media Resource

My name is Brian Potter and I have been involved in the reptile industry since 1990. I started my career in reptiles while serving in the United States Marine Corps while stationed at Camp Pendleton in Attack Helicopter Squadron HMLA-267 and working in a southern California reptile store in the free time I had. I opened up Chicago Reptile House, the midwest’s first reptile only store, with a partner from the Marines in 1993 in a suburb of Chicago where I was born and raised. We expanded into Chicago Birdhouse and Chicago Fish & Coral Company in the following few years.

I also co-own the North American Reptile Breeders Conference & Trade Shows (NARBC Shows) with Bob Ashley of ECO. The shows are the first in the country to elevate the quality and overall show attendee experience. We took reptile shows to a national and international level and moved them out of small outdated facilities into some of the biggest and well known in the country such as the Anaheim Convention Center. Our mission is to change perceptions of the industry and the reptiles themselves to the general public who is so often fed bogus information by animal rights groups. We also were the driving force in starting up and helping to fund the United States Association of Reptile Keepers (USARK). We hold auctions at each of our shows that have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for USARK & PIJAC, the two political lobbying organizations for the industry. NARBC shows take place in Arlington (Dallas) Texas, Anaheim California and Tinley Park (Chicago) Illinois.

I am also a partner in two other businesses outside of the reptile industry one being an eco friendly retail baby business called Cutie Poops and Bottoms and an eco friendly detergent company called Eco Sprout.

My passion when it comes to the animals is in Ball pythons where I maintain a collection of about 300 snakes. We breed rare and beautiful genetic color and pattern morphs that we sell to collectors and hobbyists. I am also partners in a very large breeding collection of Gila Monsters that are kept in Washington state due to their being one of only two venomous lizards in the world.

In doing promotions for both Chicago Reptile House and NARBC I have been on television shows such as FOX News Good Day LA, Fox Local Chicago, CBS, NBC and WGN numerous times with reptiles over the last 20 years. I have also been a in-studio guest on the Mancow Muller Radio Show in Chicago many times. I have done radio interviews with Herp Nation and Urban Jungles Radio as well.
